May forced a half smile and inattentively nodded as Trump rambled about how reports of the dislike between the two leaders were false rumors.

Trump gushed about how much the two leaders like each other, “The prime minister and myself have had a really great relationship, although some people don’t necessarily believe that, but I can tell you, I have a tremendous respect for the prime minister and the job she’s doing. I think the standpoint is mutual from the standpoint of liking each other a lot. That’s a little bit of a false rumor. I have great respect for everything you’re doing. We love your country. We’re working on transactions in terms of economic development, trade, maybe most importantly, military. We have very much joined at the hip when it comes to military. We have the same ideas, the same ideals. There’s nothing that would happen to you, we won’t be there to fight for you. You know that. And I just want to thank you very much. This is a great honor to be here. Thank you very much.”

In her response, May didn’t say anything about liking Trump, “Thank you very much, Mr. President, thank you. We’ve had, as you say, we’ve had a great discussion today. We continue to have that really special relationship. Between the UK and the United States. We’re facing the same challenges across the world and, as you say, we’re working together to to defeat those challenges and to meet them. The U.S. and the UK both do well out of this. It’s been great to see you.”
May could barely hide her distaste for Trump
There was no warmth to the Trump/May interaction. May has been critical of Trump’s tweets and encouraging of anti-Muslim bigotry in the past. The leader of the greatest ally of the United States looked tuned out and like she couldn’t wait to get off of the stage when sitting next to Trump. The fact that a president thought that he had to publicly state that the Prime Minister liked he spoke volumes about Trump’s priorities and the basic insecurity that runs the man’s life.
It was obvious to anyone who could see the video that May and Trump don’t have a great relationship. The UK prime minister tried to fake it with Trump, but she was pretty easy to see through.
The global standing of the United States has completely collapsed when Donald Trump can’t maintain a warm relationship with the leader of the UK.
