Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) slammed Trump for twisting the statements that he made during a CNN interview and for being too afraid to stand up to Putin.
Trump tweeted:
Finally, Liddle’ Adam Schiff, the leakin’ monster of no control, is now blaming the Obama Administration for Russian meddling in the 2016 Election. He is finally right about something. Obama was President, knew of the threat, and did nothing. Thank you Adam!

Schiff responded:
Sorry for delay @POTUS. Was on a plane back from Munich where General McMaster confronted Russia over its meddling.
I’ve always said Obama should’ve acted sooner. But you won’t recognize the truth, impose sanctions or act at all. If McMaster can stand up to Putin, why can’t you? https://t.co/ixjsjMJSVJ

Schiff was right. Trump lacks the courage that other people in his own administration have demonstrated when talking about Russian election interference. Trump has also undercut members of his own administration when they try to criticize Russia in any way. Trump spends his time desperately courting Putin’s attention. Trump has never shown any inclination toward standing up to Putin. The President was reportedly livid when Congress passed the bill sanctioning Russia.
There isn’t a courageous bone in Trump’s body, which is why Trump is an obstacle to be overcome, not a leader who will defend US democracy from the Russians.
