Democrats Demand Documents On Niger Ambush As Trump’s Benghazi Just Got Real

Democrats are demanding White House documents on the ambush that killed four Special Forces members in Niger.

Here is the letter from ranking member Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) to House Oversight Committee chair Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC):

Cummings wrote to Gowdy that he can at least request documents from the White House, “It is now clear that, in order to conduct our investigation in a thorough manner, we need information that only the White House can provide. Since you refuse to seek a briefing from the White House, I now request that you at least join me in requesting documents from the White House on the deadly ambush in Niger — a step you took without hesitation when you served as the Chairman of the Select Committee on Benghazi.â€

Republicans spent years hounding Obama over the Benghazi conspiracy theory, but four Special Forces members lost their lives in Niger under unclear circumstances, and there has been no congressional investigation. The families of these Americans who sacrificed for their country deserve to know what happened.

The Niger Ambush will be another area of investigation for Democrats if they take back the House. A report shows that command failures led to the ambush. It is unacceptable that Republicans waste government resources chasing conspiracy theories and covering for Trump in the Russia scandal, but aren’t interested in doing a full investigation when members of the armed services die.

There is a real scandal. It happened in Niger, and Democrats are coming for the truth.
