Trump’s last shred of legitimacy vanished as the Russians penetrated voting systems in seven states including swing states Florida and Wisconsin.
NBC News reported, “Three senior intelligence officials told NBC News that the intelligence community believed the states as of January 2017 were Alaska, Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, Texas and Wisconsin. The officials say systems in the seven states were compromised in a variety of ways, with some breaches more serious than others, from entry into state websites to penetration of actual voter registration databases.”
The Russians had already hacked the DNC. They knew what states Hillary Clinton was targeting, so it likely isn’t a coincidence that they hit states like Arizona, Florida, and Wisconsin. With each week more information is revealed that indicates that the Russian attack on state voting systems was much more severe than has previously been reported.
The official US line will continue to be that no votes were changed because that is what the government has to say or else people will lose faith in the electoral system and democracy will be sabotaged forever in this country. Even if votes weren’t changed, by penetrating voter rolls the Russians were able to gain critical data for their misinformation campaign about which voters to target in each state.
Trump will never be considered a legitimate president because the cloud hanging over his election only grows darker and more ominous. The Russians wanted to penetrate the US voting system for a reason, and their motive was likely to delegitimize the US election and help Donald Trump.
