Rachel Maddow Says Bob Mueller Has The Answer To One Question That Could Bring Down Trump

Rachel Maddow laid out the one question that could bring down Donald Trump’s presidency, and she said Special Counsel Robert Mueller is about to reveal whether he has the answer to it.

According to Maddow, “the heart of the matter” of the ongoing Russia investigation is whether any Trump campaign officials were working with or had knowledge of Moscow’s hack of DNC emails.

She said Mueller is zeroing in on answering that question, and if it turns out any Trump officials were involved, it would be game over.

Maddow laid it out:

This is the heart of the matter, right? This is the crucial question. … When the Russian government committed these criminal acts to influence the outcome of our election, was there a conspiracy with people here in America to help pull that off? Who on the Trump campaign knew that Russia had committed that crime and stolen those documents? Who on the Trump campaign knew about the Russian’s plan to disseminate those documents to try to influence our election? Did anybody on the Trump campaign know about that crime while it was a crime in process? Did anybody on the Trump campaign abet that crime? Did they give their assent, their encouragement? Did they offer to help out or play a role in it, or give advice, or help plan any aspect of that crime? That’s the heart of the matter. We learned from NBC yesterday that Mueller and his prosecutors are focused in on those questions now in this investigation. And we learned from NBC tonight that charges are coming related to that part of the crime.

Mueller’s indictment of 13 Russians was only the beginning

Despite what the Trump administration says, Robert Mueller’s recent indictment of 13 Russians does not clear them of any wrongdoing. In fact, what’s missing from the indictment could spell trouble for them down the road.

As Rep. Adam Schiff noted on Monday, that indictment did not include the Russian hacking of DNC documents. That’s certainly not because Mueller overlooked it. Instead, it’s likely because that aspect will be dealt with in another set of charges and indictments.

Those charges, as Maddow mentioned on Thursday, are just on the horizon. And, clearly, Mueller isn’t just looking into Russian actors when dealing with this aspect of the investigation – he’s looking squarely at the President of the United States and his 2016 campaign.
