Robert Mueller is investigating Jared Kushner for using his White House job to help his private businesses, and the result could mean criminal charges for Trump’s son in law.
NBC News reported, “Federal investigators are scrutinizing whether any of Jared Kushner’s business discussions with foreigners during the presidential transition later shaped White House policies in ways designed to either benefit or retaliate against those he spoke with, according to witnesses and other people familiar with the investigation. Special counsel Robert Mueller’s team has asked witnesses about Kushner’s efforts to secure financing for his family’s real estate properties, focusing specifically on his discussions during the transition with individuals from Qatar and Turkey, as well as Russia, China and the United Arab Emirates, according to witnesses who have been interviewed as part of the investigation into possible collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign to sway the 2016 election.”
What the feds are investigating is a basic case of influence peddling and bribery. If Kushner took money from foreigners for his businesses and then used his position as a senior White House advisor to influence US government policy, that’s a crime. It is possible that Trump could pardon Kushner for any charges that arise, but the problem with a pardon is that Jared Kushner would have to admit guilt, and as soon as he admits guilt, he will face state charges for his crimes.
For that reason alone, a presidential pardon is out of the question. With White House sources telling the media that Trump is trying to force Jared and Ivanka to go back to New York, there is more than smoke to this story. It looks like Trump is trying to get Kushner out of the White House before he is charged with a crime, and that crime looks like it could be related Kushner to selling his influence to foreign governments.
