Former Donald Trump aide San Nunberg went “bonkers” during a flurry of interviews on Monday, trashing his former boss’s administration and promising not to cooperate with Robert Mueller’s special counsel investigation.
In an interview with MSNBC’s Chris Hayes, Katy Tur said that Nunberg’s perspective is stunning and newsworthy, but the media should remember that there are still other important questions that need answering – namely, what did Trump know during the campaign and when did he know it?

Tur said:
While Sam Nunberg and today was bonkers, underscore bonkers, it doesn’t take away from the fact that there are still questions being asked not only of Sam Nunberg, but of others about what the president when he was a candidate knew and when he knew it.
The Robert Mueller investigation into the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia will not live or die depending on Sam Nunberg’s account of things. But his firestorm of “bonkers” interviews and refusal to comply with the special counsel suggests he has something to hide.
Nunberg’s cover-up only plays into the growing probability that the Trump campaign worked with Russia, at least to some degree, to influence the 2016 election. If they didn’t do anything wrong, then the former Trump aide shouldn’t have a problem putting his emails out there.
As Sarah Jones noted a short time ago, “The danger here for Trump is the more Nunberg screams and hollers that he won’t go and Mueller can’t make him, the more hardened the image of collusion becomes, even if he is just trying to protect his mentor Roger Stone.”
Refusing to be completely pulled down the San Nunberg rabbit hole on Monday, Katy Tur asked two key questions that are central to the ongoing Russia investigation: When Trump was a candidate, what did he know about his campaign’s coordination with Russia and when did he know it? All else – even the amusing ramblings of a former campaign aide – is small ball.
The media and the American people should keep their focus on answering those questions, even while Trump’s traveling circus of former friends continues to plaster themselves all over cable news to cover their own skin.
