In the latest sign that Donald Trump has no intention of solving America’s gun problem, he held a meeting behind closed doors on Monday to discuss … video game violence.
According to The Hill, the president “met with representatives of the video game industry and its critics of video game violence” because he feels it contributes to mass shootings, like the one that led to 17 fatalities in Parkland, Florida.
More from the report:
Attendees described the summit as a listening session for the president, who has expressed concerns about violence in video games.

“He was clearly concerned about some of this imagery that you’re seeing in these ultra-violent video games that are being watched by children,” Brent Bozell, president of the conservative Media Research Center and a frequent critic of video game violence, said in an interview with The Hill.

Other attendees included two video game company executives and three Republican members of Congress, including Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.).
As The Hill report noted, “Studies have not been able to establish that violent video games lead to violent behavior.”
What Trump’s post-Parkland inaction seems to establish, though, is that there is a clear connection between NRA campaign contributions and his refusal to acknowledge the root cause of gun violence in America – and to act to accordingly.
Despite Trump’s best efforts to convince the country otherwise, the United States is not the only civilized country that sells violent video games and movies. We aren’t the only nation with mentally unstable people either.
Donald Trump needs to stop wasting the country’s time and start acknowledging that easy access to high-powered weaponry in the U.S. is why we see such frequent mass killings.
Each day he buries his head in the sand is another day that American school children have to fear for their lives.
