Democratic congressman Ted Lieu said that Donald Trump’s behavior toward Russia over the years is not a coincidence.
Instead, the repeated episodes in which Trump either praises Vladimir Putin or ignores Moscow’s bad conduct shows that “something bad happened” during the 2016 election that Trump is trying to hide.

Rep. Lieu said:
In isolation, every one of these facts is not. But when you put it all together, it forms a very suspicious view of what actually happened. As we sit here today, Donald Trump still has not imposed the bipartisan congressional sanctions on Russia. He still has not criticized Putin for hacking American democracy in 2016, and he still has not directed his FBI or NSA to prevent another attack. So when you add all this together, either that’s coincidence number 2,451, or something bad happened in 2016.
The Democrat’s response came after MSNBC’s Alex Witt mentioned a new Washington Post report showing that Trump personally wrote to Vladimir Putin in 2013 to invite him to the Miss Universe Pageant in Moscow.
“Trump’s letter to Putin, which was described by people with knowledge of its contents, shows how interested he was in attracting the personal attention of the Russian president,” the Post noted.
As Rep. Lieu pointed out, this small piece of information alone does not suggest anything suspicious. But putting all of these facts together – from Trump’s constant praise of Russia to his continued refusal to retaliate for the 2016 attack – shows that something else is going on here.
With Robert Mueller’s special counsel investigation continuing to chug along despite efforts by the White House to end it, it is likely that the American people will soon find out what Donald Trump has been hiding all this time.
