Pence’s publisher, Regency Books, called a children’s book about fighting discrimination partisan, “It’s unfortunate that anyone would feel the need to ridicule an educational children’s book and turn it into something controversial and partisan. Our and Mrs. and Charlotte Pence’s goal is — and will continue to be — to educate young readers about the important role of the vice president, as well as to highlight the charities to which portions of the book proceeds will be donated.”
On Last Week Tonight, Oliver said, “And let me be completely clear about this. This is actually a book for children. This is a real book for children. This isn’t some adult book telling Mike Pence to go f*ck himself, although in buying it, that’s exactly what you would be doing. This is a sweet story about Marlon Bundo falling in love.â€
A book about love is beating a book by a family that believes in hating the LGBTQ community based on nothing more than a warping of Christian faith as an excuse for discrimination. America has changed. The Mike Pence’s of the world are raging relics of a dark near past. The Last Week Tonight book is being hailed as beautiful. The election of Trump reignited a culture war, but not the one Republicans expected.
The American people are standing up for their real values. The corruption of Trump and the bigotry and hatred of Pence can’t change who the American people are.
In 2018, love is beating hate.
