Family Of YouTube Shooter Tried Warning Police That She Might ‘Do Something’

On Tuesday, a woman named Nasim Najafi Aghdam carried out a shooting at YouTube’s headquarters in California, wounding three people and killing herself.

Now her family is saying that they had tried to warn police about her anger toward the company, telling authorities “she might do something.”

The night before, police found her sleeping in her car in the city of Mountain View after her family reported her missing.

Though the motive behind this shooting has yet to be confirmed, it appears that Aghdam resented new policies the company had implemented, which she felt were censoring and failing to monetize a channel she ran centered on veganism and animal rights. There is so far no evidence that Aghdam illegally obtained the pistol she used.

This isn’t the first time authorities have failed to step in after being warned about an eventual shooter’s likelihood to act. Most recently, the Broward County Sheriff’s office in Florida has come under fire after it was revealed that the department had received at least 19 phone calls regarding Nikolas Cruz, the Parkland mass shooter. The FBI also failed to act on two tips they received on Cruz, one specifically warning that he wanted to be a school shooter.
