Trump Just Got A Big Facebook Problem As Zuckerberg Is Working With Mueller

During his testimony, Mark Zuckerberg said Facebook officials had been interviewed by the special counsel and that they are working with Robert Mueller.

Transcript of Zuckerberg and Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT):

Sen. Patrick Leahy: I assume Facebook has been served subpoenas is that correct?

Mark Zuckerberg: Yes.

Leahy: Have you or anyone at Facebook been interviewed by the special counsel’s office?

Zuckerberg: Yes.

Leahy: Have you been interviewed?

Zuckerberg: I have not. I have not —

Leahy: Others have?

Zuckerberg: I believe so. I want to be careful here. Because that — our work with the special counsel is confidential. I want to make sure in an open session I don’t reveal something that’s confidential.

Leahy: I understand. I just want to make clear that you’ve been contacted and have had subpoenas?

Zuckerberg: Actually, let me clarify that. I actually am not aware of a subpoena. I believe there may be, but I know we’re working with them.

Leahy: Thank you.

Facebook’s cooperation with Mueller is a major development that is terrible news for Trump. Facebook along with other social media companies were the platforms that Russia used to influence voters for Trump. If there was illegal coordination between the Trump campaign and Russia, Facebook was one of the key places where the fruits of this relationship were deployed.

Trump has a world of problems, and setting aside for a moment the fact that Facebook is faced with their own crisis, the idea that Zuckerberg and company are cooperating with Mueller should give the subjects and targets of the Russia investigation even more heartburn.
