Trump’s Own Defense Secretary Just Destroyed His Syria Strike Lie

Defense Secretary James Mattis contradicted Trump’s claim that these strikes will be ongoing by admitting that the bombing was a “one time shot.”

Video:

Mattis said, “That will depend on Mr. Assad, should he decide to use more chemical weapons in the future. And, of course, the — the powers that have signed the chemical weapons prohibition have ever reason to challenge Assad should he choose to violate that. Right now this is a one-time shot, and I believe it has sent a very strong message to dissuade him, to deter him from doing this again.”

The Defense Secretary statement was different from Trump, who said, “The purpose of our actions tonight is to establish a strong deterrent against the production, spread, and use of chemical weapons. Establishing this deterrent is a vital national security interest of the United States. The combined American, British, and French response to these atrocities will integrate all instruments of our national power — military, economic, and diplomatic. We are prepared to sustain this response until the Syrian regime stops its use of prohibited chemical agents.”

The strike was a limited response that will have no impact, that appears to have been done for show. As usual, Trump inflated his action to a larger and more important degree that what it really was. The Trump administration is so incompetent that they can’t even stay on the same message for two hours.

Trump lied, and whether his Defense Secretary knew it or not, he exposed Trump’s big Syria lie.
