With Impeachment On His Trail, Trump Changes His Comey Firing Story

President Donald Trump said he did not fire James Comey “because of the phony Russia investigation” Wednesday morning, contradicting his 2017 statement that he fired the former FBI director over the Russia investigation into whether Trump and his campaign coordinated with Russia to harm Hillary Clinton in the election.

Dubbing Comey with one of his nursery school taunts, this one “Slippery James Comey,” Trump claimed he “was not fired because of the phony Russia investigation.”

On May 9, 2017, Trump fired James Comey, which led to the appointment of Special Counsel Robert Mueller. A move that even his former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon said was one of the worst mistakes in “modern political history.”

Two days after firing Comey, Trump made the mistake of going on NBC to talk to Lester Holt, who milked Trump’s ego by just letting him talk, which led to Trump bragging that he did it because, speaking of himself by referring to his name, “this Russia thing with Trump and Russia is a made-up story.”

“And in fact when I decided to just do it, I said to myself, I said ‘you know, this Russia thing with Trump and Russia is a made-up story, it’s an excuse by the Democrats for having lost an election that they should have won’.”

“My decision….I was going to fire Comey. There’s no good time to do it by the way….I was going to fire regardless of recommendation.â€

The White House tried to claim they fired Comey on the recommendation of the deputy attorney general, over the way Comey handled the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server (a thing the Trump administration is also doing, by the way – “lock him up!”)

The White House has also claimed that Comey lost the support of the rank and file FBI, but the acting FBI Director said while testifying before the Senate Intelligence Committee that this is not true.

In fact, Trump praised Comey for doing a good job with the Clinton emails. Trump fired Comey as an attempt to interfere in the Russia investigation into collusion with the Russians, and this is why the story keeps changing.

Trump and Russia deny that there was any collusion.

Name-calling isn’t going to get Trump out of hot water, and that’s too bad for him, because for all of Trump’s tough talk, he is a little boy taking orders from people who know how to wield power and manipulate people. The only thing Trump excels at is being the leader of an organized crime family – one that looks out only for itself, and uses its own followers, many of whom haven’t had a break in their lifetime, to bolster the lives of the already gold-gilded Trump family.

Justice is coming, which is why Trump is singing a new tune.
