The Democrats’ Lawsuit Is A Trap That Trump Is Certain To Fall Into

The Democratic Party has filed a multimillion-dollar lawsuit against Trump campaign staff including Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, Paul Manafort, Rick Gates, Wikileaks, and the Russian government alleging that the parties conspired to disrupt the election, and help Trump win.

Here is the statement announcing the lawsuit from the Democratic Party:

Democrats are pulling from the Watergate playbook

The Washington Post reported that Democrats filed a similar lawsuit in 1972 after Watergate, “The lawsuit echoes a similar legal tactic that the Democratic Party used during the Watergate scandal. In 1972, the DNC filed suit against then President Richard Nixon’s reelection committee seeking $1 million in damages for the break-in at Democratic headquarters in the Watergate building. The suit was denounced at the time by Nixon’s attorney general, John Mitchell, who called it a case of ‘sheer demagoguery’ by the DNC. But the civil action brought by former DNC chair Lawrence F. O’Brien was ultimately successful, yielding a $750,000 settlement from the Nixon campaign that was reached on the day in 1974 that Nixon left office.”

The Democratic lawsuit is a trap

Trump is already rattled over the Michael Cohen raid and the Mueller investigation. The president melted down over the Comey memos. The Democrats have just put some fresh bait on the hook to keep Trump talking about Russia. The lawsuit is also smart because if Special Counsel Robert Mueller finds evidence that Trump conspired with the Russians, the party will be set up to recover millions of dollars in damages from the hacking.

The lawsuit is a trap, and whether it is Stormy Daniels, James Comey, or the Democratic Party, Trump has shown that he lacks the discipline to stay away from the bait. After Trump gets off the golf course today, he will start tweeting, and will not be smart enough to leave this alone.

Trump is a dumber and more corrupt Richard Nixon, so it makes perfect sense that the same strategy that brought Nixon down stands a good chance of taking out Trump.
