Sarah Huckabee Sanders Needs to Apologize for Her Fake Patriotism Smear Of Democrats

Monday morning, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders accused Democrats of hating Trump more than they love their country as her special way of rallying support for Pompeo, saying on Fox News, “At some point Democrats have to decide whether they love this country, more than they hate this president.â€

Watch here:

Oh, no you don’t, Ms Press Secretary.

Reality: Obstruction has been a long tradition in D.C., but what has not been a long tradition is what Republicans actually did to President Obama, including obstructing good, qualified nominees out of spite. Which is not the same thing as Democrats having concerns about the many unqualified and even uniquely awful candidates Trump manages to dredge up from his swamp of corruption.

There are way too many examples of Republicans obstructing Obama, a promise they vowed to undertake days after he took office, and spent 8 years making good on. But this is how they get you, with lies that are too big to pick through. So today, it’s Republican Senator Tom Cotton, who spent Sunday whining about the obstruction of Mike Pompeo’s nomination.

“Democrats, especially on the Foreign Relations Committee, are really engaged in shameful political behavior,†Cotton said Sunday on CBS’ “Face the Nation.†LOL, Senator.

Tom Cotton held up an Obama nominee… until she died. He even admitted he had no issue with her, but did it to inflict “special pain on the president.”

“Cotton’s spokeswoman did not dispute Butts’s characterization of that meeting, and stressed, in separate emails, that Cotton had enormous respect for her and her career.” <--- That would be an actual example of hating a president more than loving one's country. During an interview on CNBC in March of 2016, Speaker Ryan claimed that there was a precedent for the Republican obstruction of Obama’s SCOTUS nominee, but of course, that was false. There was no precedent for the unacceptable obstruction of Obama’s SCOTUS pick.

The problem with Trump’s nominees is easily proven with his campaign inner circle and his cabinet, many of whom are under ethical investigation or have quit or been fired already for incredible conflicts and issues, including criminal charges.

Here’s an example of the problem with Pompeo as explained by Vox:

The pattern was clear: Pompeo has a long history of extreme rhetoric, on issues ranging from the use of military force to Islam to LGBTQ rights — but had spent the entire hearing presenting a much less extreme, and more palatable, version of his views. After about five hours of hearings, it was clear that Menendez had had enough.

“As we close here,†the senator said, “I am trying to think about which Mike Pompeo I will be asked to vote on.â€

This, of course, is not anything like Republicans refusing to even vote on President Obama’s Merrick Garland pick — A person so qualified and suited to the Supreme Court that it deeply wounded our country to lose him. That, too, is an actual example of Republicans hating a president more than they loved their country; the obstruction of Pompeo is not, given that there are actual issues with Pompeo.

As Jason Easley pointed out in these pages, “The nominees that he has sent over are often like Pompeo, ill-suited for the position, or unqualified. Mike Pompeo has never been a diplomat. He got the nominated to Secretary of State because Trump likes him. Trump picks bad people for all of the wrong reasons. That is the reason why his nominees struggle to get confirmed.”

Republicans have a one-seat majority on the panel so if they choose not to issue a recommendation for Pompeo, they can blame Democrats all they want, but the truth is it will be a choice they made to avert more Trump failure over a distinctly not non-partisan candidate about whom many people have concerns, and they are not all Democrats.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders has slithered into the slime of the swamp with her despicable lies about Democrats and her unholy allegiance to a president of lies.

An administration that is under numerous federal investigations including possible collusion with Russia doesn’t get to flag wave.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders must apologize to Democrats and the America people. The people should demand it. This is an outrageous accusation better suited to a dictator than to the press secretary of the U.S. president. Not liking all of Trump’s nominees isn’t the same thing as hating one’s country at all; in fact, if anything, hating Trump’s nominees could well be a sign of patriotism.
