In 20 Seconds, Rachel Maddow Reminds America How Much Trump Has Denigrated The Presidency

In less than 30 seconds on Thursday, Rachel Maddow showed just how much Donald Trump has denigrated the U.S. presidency.

To underscore this point, all Maddow had to do was show today’s front page of The New York Times, which reads: “Trump Acknowledges Porn Actress Payoff.”

“This will forever be a frontpage in presidential U.S. history,” the MSNBC star said in disbelief. “What a life we’re all living.”

It’s something even weirder than fascinating that this will forever be a front page in U.S. presidential history. This is the front page of The New York Times website right now: ‘President acknowledges porn actress payoff. Contradicts earlier claims.’ What a life we’re all living. Happy National Day of Prayer.

None of what we are seeing is normal

It might be easy to forget, but it’s always important to remember that all of the controversy and corruption flowing from the White House is not normal.

The lies from every level of the administration. The unhinged social media ramblings from the commander-in-chief. The very real possibility that the president conspired with a foreign government to win an election. Obstruction of justice. Pornstar payoffs. Corruption up and down Trump’s cabinet.

Days like today, though, seem different. And as Rachel Maddow pointed out on her show, the front page of The Times encapsulated quite perfectly just how deep into the gutter the United States has been taken by Donald Trump.

Ultimately, the American people should take a moment to remind themselves that none of this is normal. It shouldn’t be treated as such, particularly by the media.  Becoming numb to the chaos and corruption of this president will only welcome in more chaos and corruption.

Day in and day out, this White House – led by an unhinged president – continues to tarnish the most powerful and prestigious office in the world.

As Maddow said on Thursday: “What a life we’re all living.”
