Adam Schiff Drops A Big New Mueller Subpoena Bomb On Trump

The ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), dropped a bomb on Trump’s plan not to comply with any subpoenas from the Special Counsel.

Schiff was asked by Jake Tapper on CNN’s State of the Union if there was any way that Trump could dodge a Mueller subpoena.

The Congressman from California answered, “No. He will need to comply with the subpoena if they take the case to court they will lose. I have to say I’m a little taken aback by the new lawyer Rudy Giuliani’s strategy. His legal defense seems to be a bit unorthodox and starts out by saying you can’t believe the president of the United States. That is our defense. When he says things you have to discount them. More than that, trust me, this wasn’t a violation of campaign finance laws. Neither of those is pretty persuasive. Other things Giuliani said in his maiden voyage as the president’s new lawyer were deeply hurtful by saying the Russia investigation, the failure to clear him and announce he wasn’t the suspect is the reason why Comey was fired. Not withstanding the efforts at damage control I think this is a very unpromising strategy.”

Schiff was right. Trump can’t dodge a Mueller subpoena. He can try, and he probably will, but he is nearly certain to lose in court. Rep. Schiff was also correct in suggesting that Giuliani’s legal strategy of don’t believe anything that client has to say is also destined to hurt Trump more than it will help.

I don’t think that what Giuliani is doing could be considered good political damage control. The stories have no consistency to them, and Giuliani seems hellbent on telling the country that Trump is guilty, which one suspects might be a ploy to prepare the country for what is coming.

If Trump thinks he can dodge, Mueller’s subpoena, he is setting himself up for a world of hurt.
