Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell of California shot back at the Trump administration on Monday, saying that if they are so eager to see Robert Mueller wrap up his investigation, they should stop lying and “come clean.”
According to the Democrat, the reason the special counsel probe is taking so long is that the unprecedented lies coming from the Trump administration “slow things down.”
The congressman’s comments come days after Vice President Mike Pence urged Mueller to “wrap it up.”

Rep. Swalwell said:
Fortunately, Bob Mueller is moving as aggressively as the Russians have been. You know, what is holding him up I think are the lies. Lies cause investigations to take longer. So when Vice President Pence says “wrap it up”, well, just come clean. Because when you lie, it takes a lot longer. Two, they’re still counting Russians, right? Under every rock, out of every tree is a Russian. And three, the president has literally been given the questions to — has been given a copy of the questions that Mueller wants to ask and he still won’t sit in the chair. If he sat in the chair, I think this would move a lot faster.
What Trump and his loyalists don’t recognize is that the investigation hasn’t been prolonged because they can’t find any evidence against the president. Instead, it’s likely because the special counsel is drowning in lines of inquiry.
Robert Mueller is systematically and thoroughly following each one in hopes of getting to the truth. When Trump tries to muddy the waters by lying, it only adds more time to the investigation and more fuel to the raging dumpster fire threatening to engulf this presidency.
Ultimately, if the White House truly wants to see the Russia investigation come to a close, they should stop lying, come clean and have Trump meet with Mueller.
Until then, the president and his team of bumbling lawyers should stop whining and let Robert Mueller do his job.
