Former GOP Speaker of the House John Boehner took a clear shot at Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers on Thursday, saying the GOP no longer exists under this president.
“There is no Republican Party,” Boehner said. “There’s a Trump party.”
The former Speaker of the House said the party he once knew is asleep at the wheel as the current president wreaks havoc on America.

Boehner said:
There is no Republican Party. There’s a Trump party. The Republican Party is kinda taking a nap somewhere. Donald Trump, who I know well, was one of my supporters when I was speaker, I was having a rough week, Trump would call me, pat me on the back, cheer me up. We played a lot of golf together. But president, really? … The two most surprised people in the entire world that night were Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Hillary Clinton thought she was gonna win, Donald Trump thought he was gonna lose.
Republicans are sitting on their hands as Trump destroys America
While Republicans were quick to gin up phony scandals under former President Barack Obama, they have been completely silent in the era of Trump – when it has mattered most.
This silence isn’t just troubling because Trump is completely unfit to hold the office, as he shows in his daily, unhinged Twitter tantrums. But it’s also disturbing given how many potentially criminal activities Trump is caught up in – from Russian collusion and obstruction of justice to porn star payoffs and selling U.S. foreign policy to help his family’s business interests.
When the history books document this era of American politics, they will not be kind to the throngs of GOP politicians who stood by as this reality TV president used the federal government as his play toy.
