Not that it matters what the American people want, unless they all show up to vote their conscience, but 2/3s of Americans do not want the Supreme Court to do Republicans’ biding by overturning Roe V Wade.
A new Kaiser Family Foundation poll found 67% of the public do not want the Supreme Court to overturn the decision that granted women’s constitutional right to abortion.
“The poll finds a slim majority (53%) of Republicans would like to see Roe v. Wade overturned, while large majorities of Democrats (81%) and independents (73%) would not. Similar shares of women (68%) and men (65%) want Roe v. Wade to stand, but among women of reproductive age, three-quarters (74%) want Roe v. Wade to stand.”
Additionally, 80% say they find federal funding for family planning and other reproductive services for low-income women “very important” or “somewhat important”, including 59% of Republicans and a majority (57%) of the public polled say they oppose Trump’s Title X regulations that would block money from Planned Parenthood.

The Republican majority and total power in DC right now is causing a rethink on some major hot button issues like abortion rights, especially among younger voters for whom this was a given for their entire lives. Suddenly they see a pharmacist refusing to fill a prescription for a woman having a miscarriage, and the language and precedent being set by the anti-choice Republicans becomes clearer.
From years of talking to women on both sides of the aisle about this, I’ve learned that many child-bearing women who would not have an abortion themselves still support the right to choose for other women, and while this area was murky before, the assault on these rights is serving to bring it into focus again for a new generation.
Republicans like to make their argument about babies, but watching them jail babies and defund food for poor babies undermines their moral authority on this topic, as does their refusal to back birth control that helps to reduce abortion rates.
The truth is that the Republican stance on abortion is untenable when examined and taken through to its conclusion, because of the precedent it sets about medical rights. There’s no way around this, and women today do not want to give an immoral party of predators like Donald Trump’s party the right to make their reproductive choices for them.
The problem is the Republican Party no longer cares what the public wants. They are ruling for the elites, the top money, the predators, the abusers, the takers. The only way they can be stopped is by everyone voting and by those who do not like to engage in political talk to get over their meekness on this topic and speak up.
