Canada Slaps $12.5 Billion In Tariffs On US Goods As Trump Trade War Disaster Grows

Canada has retaliated in Trump’s trade war by slapping $12.5 billion in tariffs 80 US produced products including steel, coffee beans, toffee, and maple syrup.

CNN reported, “The Canadian government confirmed Sunday that it has imposed tariffs on US exports worth 16.6 billion Canadian dollars ($12.5 billion). More than 40 US steel products attract tariffs of 25%. A tax of 10% has been levied on over 80 other American items including toffee, maple syrup, coffee beans and strawberry jam.”
Harley Davidson workers are losing their jobs, while soybean farmers are worried about going under. The impacts of Trump’s trade war are just beginning to be felt. Congressional Republicans are grumbling about the trade war, but are too spineless to stand up to their own president,

The trade war is only going to get worse from here, as Trump as overestimated the value of the US as a trading partner and the economic damage that retaliation to his tariffs will do the economy. Trump doesn’t care that he is hurting the people who voted for him. It doesn’t matter to him if destroys the US economy. Donald Trump is convinced that he can rewind progress and take America back fifty years.

The trade war is a disaster, and if Trump continues to push it, the losers will be millions of jobless Americans, who will suffer because Trump thought that trade wars are easy to win.
