Almost immediately after being nominated to the Supreme Court by Donald Trump on Monday night, Brett Kavanaugh disqualified himself by eagerly sucking up to the president.
In his short remarks following the announcement, Kavanaugh proved that he is likely to be nothing but a puppet for Trump.
Given the growing threat that Trump poses to democratic institutions and the fact that the American people increasingly want the two other branches of government to hold this corrupt president accountable, this is unacceptable.

Kavanaugh said with a straight face:
I have witnessed first hand your appreciation for the vital role of the American judiciary. No president has ever consulted more widely or talked with more people from more background to seek input about a Supreme Court nomination. Mr. President, I am grateful to you.
Democrats must unite in opposition to this dangerous pick
Given Kavanaugh’s extremist positions on abortion, guns, the environment and whether presidents should face criminal investigation while in office – I wrote about all of that here – this is a dangerous pick that Democrats must oppose.
Luckily, as Jason Easley wrote a short time ago, Democrats were quick to announce their opposition to the nomination, with Sen. Chuck Schumer releasing a scathing statement almost immediately.
Kavanaugh’s lovefest with Trump following his formal nomination adds icing to the cake and demonstrates even further that he should be nowhere near the bench.
The United States Supreme Court isn’t meant to be a protective body for a corrupt president. If Brett Kavanaugh is confirmed to replace Justice Anthony Kennedy, the court would be pushed in that direction.
Democrats must oppose him.
