After Donald Trump stood on foreign soil and surrendered to Russian president Vladimir Putin, Democratic Congressman Ted Lieu didn’t hold back his outrage.
In an interview with MSNBC’s Ari Melber, Rep. Lieu – a decorated military official – called Trump’s performance “one of the most disgraceful moments” in U.S. history.

The Democrat blasted Trump for praising Putin:
The 12 people that were indicted were indicted by American officials for electing Donald Trump, helping Russia elect Donald Trump. For Trump to be there on foreign soil and say, now, let’s have all these folks come into Langley and work at the CIA is ridiculous. It really is one of the most disgraceful moments, I think, of American history. I agree with Newt Gingrich who said this was the most serious mistake of the Donald Trump presidency.
Trump’s surrender to Putin will not be forgotten
While Democrats like Rep. Ted Lieu have been standing up to this dangerous president since he took office, Monday’s performance in Helsinki seems to be a turning point for members of both parties.
It’s no longer just Democrats and retiring Republicans standing up to Trump. Top Republican officeholders are also speaking out, and even Fox News has called Trump out for selling out the United States to Russia.
And Trump’s favorite “news” network wasn’t just tough on him; they were also tough on Putin. As Jason Easley wrote a short time ago, Chris Wallace of Fox News was “more interested and more prepared to challenge Putin” today than Trump was when standing next to the Russian leader.
As Rep. Lieu said, Monday was a dark moment in American history that won’t soon be forgotten. It was a sad display of weakness and appeasement from an American president while standing next to an American foe.
It could mark an important turning point in the Trump presidency – one that doesn’t bode well for the sinking White House.
