And now, after it appears that the president will be facing great legal jeopardy because his former lawyer made a plea deal where he will be giving incriminating information to federal prosecutors, Trump wants to do away with “flipping.” That is, he wants to make it illegal for people facing prosecution to cooperate with the government in exchange for a reduced sentence.

Trump went on “Fox & Friends” and heavily criticized his former lawyer, saying that Cohen is wrongly implicating him in his crimes so he can cut a better deal with prosecutors and reduce his jail time. According to the president, “Cohen makes a better deal when he uses me.” He said he believes that people who decide to co-operate with law enforcement when they are being charged with crimes ” just make up stories” and “just make up lies.”
When discussing their ability to get lenient treatment because of their cooperation with prosecutors, the president said: “It’s called flipping and it almost ought to be illegal. It’s not a fair thing.”
So now we can add “flipping” to the list of rights of Americans that Donald Trump wants to toss on the trash heap as he slouches toward the creation of an authoritarian government made in his own image.
