Opinion: Putin Appears To Be Attacking Nancy Pelosi And Some Progressives Are Falling For It

Led by Nancy Pelosi, Democrats are very likely to take back the House in November and just like in 2016, the prospect of a strong, capable woman being in a position of power scares the Kremlin and the Republican Party.

In 2016, ageism and sexism worked on conservatives, but it also worked on progressives. So, it looks as if they’re trying it again, this time with Nancy Pelosi as the intended target.

Jen Kirkman noted the similarity in the attacks perfectly in a tweet:

Falling for it would mean snatching defeat from the jaws of victory and America deserves better than that.

But nothing sounds more seductive to a progressive than the prospect of sticking it to “the establishment”  – that old elite that seeks to maintain a status quo.

I get it.  I’m sympathetic to it.  But, this is where the Kremllin’s attempt at agitation fails us.  They really are working to maintain the status quo of Donald Trump – a status quo that seeks to destroy everything about America that makes it exceptional.

Sexism and ageism aren’t going to bring in new blood.  They merely recycle the status quo of a government where women are left in the kitchen and minorities are left in the fields while rich, white men make all the decisions.

Rather than embracing the Kremlin designed rhetoric, we should be embracing Nancy Pelosi’s desire and ability to defend our interests – including the sovereignty of our country.

She knows the game, she knows the players better than anyone else.  The last thing we need with a corrupt presidency and a complicit Republican controlled Congress is a weakened Democratic Party as a consequence of ageism and sexism.

Of all the attacks on Pelosi, I’ve seen not one that challenges her impeccable ability to unite people with divergent views behind a common cause that benefits the people. This isn’t easy., as we saw with Paul Ryan’s time as speaker and before that, John Boehner.

We need someone with the ability to unite to counter the party of division headed by Donald Trump.  And we need someone tough enough to stand up to Donald Trump.  Again, Nancy Pelosi has proven able.

She makes the job of leading people with a variety of views, opinions and interests look deceptively easy because she’s so good at it.

If there is a need to discuss a change in leadership, just before the election of America’s life, is neither the time nor the place.
