Trump Left The White House To Golf In The Middle Of John McCain’s Memorial Service

Not only wasn’t Donald Trump invited to John McCain’s memorial service in Washington D.C. on Saturday, but he apparently couldn’t even bother to sit through it from inside the White House – stunning given how much cable news coverage the president watches on a daily basis.

While just about every lawmaker under the sun gathered at the National Cathedral to honor the life of an American war hero, Trump left to practice his chip shot right in the middle of the event.

According to The Hill, citing the White House press pool, “The president arrived at his Trump National Golf Club in Loudoun County, Va., shortly after 11 a.m.,” in the middle of the McCain memorial service.

As MSNBC producer Kyle Griffin pointed out, this is Trump‘s 152nd visit to one of his golf courses during his presidency.

Trump couldn’t put aside his pettiness

Saturday’s memorial service for McCain was filled with speakers, tributes and attendees that transcended partisan politics. It had former presidents, colleagues and friends of both parties – all delivering a message of unity and civility that McCain believed in.

The fact that the sitting President of the United States wasn’t invited and left the White House in the middle of the widely televised service to golf speaks volumes about the type of man Trump is.

On Saturday, the rest of the nation put aside ideology to honor John McCain’s life and usher in a better era of American politics. Donald Trump couldn’t do it.
