Republicans Demand The Arrest Of Protesters At Brett Kavanaugh Hearing

Senate Republicans have gone so far as to demand that the Capitol Police “do their jobs” and arrest Americans who are pleading for their health care and reproductive rights at Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing.

Sen. Orrin Hatch sounded more like he was nominating Kavanaugh for sainthood than discussing a potential Supreme Court justice when he was interrupted by a health care protester and said, “.Anyone that knows you knows are you a decent person nominated to our land. So here are the facts, Judge Kavanaugh is one of the most distinguished judges. Mr. Chairman, I think we ought to have this loud mouth removed. I mean we shouldn’t have to put up with this kind of stuff. I hope she’s not a law student.”

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) said, “Now that we have quiet, I’d like to explain that I advised two years ago that at my hearings, I expected the police to do their job and I expect the committee to go on.”

Senate Republicans don’t care that hundreds of millions of Americans might not be able to get access to health care if they have a preexisting condition and Brett Kavanaugh is confirmed. They don’t care that women will lose the right to make their own health care decisions and have control over their own bodies.

Senate Republicans don’t want to be bothered by the distraction of what the vast majority of Americans want. They are going to ram through the Supreme Court nominee of a president who has been implicated in multiple felonies. They have to flip that court. It doesn’t matter that a conservative-leaning far-right Supreme Court won’t match the direction that the country is moving in.

This Donald Trump’s Republican Party and they don’t care about what the people that they were elected to represent want, and if the majority does dare to speak out in a public forum, they could find themselves arrested.
