Former Ted Cruz strategist Rick Tyler burst into laughter on Monday after MSNBC’s Chris Matthews pointed out how Cruz has gone from a Donald Trump critic to now begging the president to save his Senate campaign.
As Democratic challenger Beto O’Rourke continues to ride a wave of momentum toward the November election, the Cruz campaign has gone into a full panic mode.
As Matthews noted on Monday, the incumbent Texas senator is now shamelessly begging the man who insulted his wife and father to save his Senate seat.

Trump has promised to hold a Texas rally in October to help Cruz, saying he’ll find the “biggest stadium” in the state.
As Rick Tyler pointed out on Monday, the closeness of the race between Ted Cruz and Beto O’Rourke is evidence of just how much damage Trump has done to the GOP brand – even in deep red states.
Recent polling shows that O’Rourke has pulled to a virtual tie with Cruz, though RealClearPolitics still gives the Republican senator a slight lead in the polling average.
Even if Cruz holds on, though, it’s only a matter of time before the state tilts toward the Democrats. Trump‘s denigration of the Hispanic population – a growing demographic in the state – has likely expedited that process.
While Ted Cruz is banking on the president to save his campaign, it is Trump who has put Republican candidates all across the country at risk of losing their jobs.
