Trump Failed With Response To Hurricane Maria: Period!

Many are aware of Mr. Trump‘s mental deficiencies and pathological lying, but what remains puzzling is why so many of his supporters remain so vigilant in their defense of him, when he has made such a delusional and mendacious remark as he did yesterday, regarding his Administration’s response to Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.

Even the most generous of interpretations as to what failures existed in the federal government‘s response to her own citizens in Puerto Rico cannot possibly ignore the fact that three thousand people lost their lives as a result of Mr. Trump‘s administration failing to meet the demands as needed during that Hurricane Season as revealed in the government accountability report.

To listen to some of Mr. Trump‘s surrogates last night on CNN arguing that it is wrong for the American people to criticize Mr. Trump‘s blatant failure to respond to such a storm, only for Mr. Trump to go on and argue that “his administration’s response to Maria was an incredible unsung success,” provides the American people a perfect example of blind conformity.

Mr. Trump not only trumpeted his own Administration’s response to Maria but also compared that response to the several other storms his administration responded to, arguing this was an example of their best performance.

Let me be clear: Anyone who can sit there in agreement with this President regarding this specific point has lost any credibility they may have had for their reasons of supporting him; specifically, that he would shake things up in Washington, and due to his business experience provide better results than ANY other politician.

Baloney.

Again: Three Thousand lives were lost as a result of that storm and the response of Mr. Trump‘s administration.  If American citizens cannot critique this man for his neglect and response to that storm, then our democracy may have already been taken away from each of us.

To argue that it is “insulting to those workers who went to Puerto Rico to respond to the storm,” by calling out this blatant LIE by this man, is representative of what IS the problem in this country; those who would willfully and blindly accept this assessment without criticism. It is this sense of callousness and utter disregard that is the problem, with Trump served up as the symptom of our systemic failure to look after our own neighbor.

Making matters worse? Senator Jeff Merkley from Oregon released a document showing the American people how Mr. Trump‘s Administration, specifically the Department of Homeland Security “requested that about $9.8 million going toward FEMA efforts such as “Preparedness and Protection†and “Response and Recovery†be funneled instead into ICE coffers, specifically underwriting “Detention Beds†and the agency’s “Transportation and Removal Program.â€

As Senator Merkley states to the Washington Post: ““At the start of hurricane season — when American citizens in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands are still suffering from FEMA’s inadequate recovery efforts — the administration transferred millions of dollars away from FEMA. And for what? To implement their profoundly misguided ‘zero-tolerance’ policy. It wasn’t enough to rip thousands of children out of the arms of their parents — the administration chose to partly pay for this horrific program by taking away from the ability to respond to damage from this year’s upcoming apotentially devastating hurricane season.â€

Mr. Trump can provide ANY excuse he wants, as he has all along. Puerto Rico is an island and the federal government knew this fact well before Maria hit the island. Puerto Rico‘s infrastructure was arguably inadequate and the federal government also knew this fact well before Maria hit the island. Puerto Rico‘s power grid was challenged from the outset, and the federal government  knew this from the outset. And finally, Puerto Rico was in debt, but the federal government was also aware of this fact well before Maria hit that island with American citizens on it!

None of the above qualifies for an excuse as Mr. Trump would have his surrogates and supporters believe.

Simply put: Trump failed when it came to leading a federal response to a United States Territory with United States citizens, leading to the loss of three-thousand  lives. Mr. Trump can pass out all the darned Paper Towels he wishes, for there simply are not enough to clean up this BS excuse of his.

Video of Trump passing Paper Towels out to Puerto Rico American citizens:

It is one issue for Trump to be Trump by bragging about his pathetic response to Puerto Rico. It is another for him to divert monies to ICE to fund his deportations en masse. But it is quite another for us,  the American people, regardless of political affiliation to sit idly by and allow him to do so, while bragging about it prior to Florence bearing down on the Carolina’s.

Trump failed with Maria. Period! If this was his best response, to the  2017 Hurricane Season, I hate to see what his worst one was.

Is FEMA ready to deal with the imminent threat posed by Hurricane Florence and several other storms, as Mr.  Trump promised the people of this nation yesterday, citing his administration’s response to Maria? While many must remain hopeful, Army General
