Chuck Schumer Blasts the GOP For Refusing To Call For An FBI Investigation Into Alleged Kavanaugh Sexual Assault

In the face of the vicious death threats and fake news lies being spread about Dr. Christine Blasey after she came reluctantly forward with the allegation that Donald Trump‘s Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh had attempted to rape her years ago, Senator Chuck Schumer D-NY) backed her call for an FBI investigation prior to a hearing.

“I strongly support Dr. Ford’s call for an FBI investigation before a hearing is held. An immediate FBI investigation is not only consistent with precedent, it is also quite clearly the right thing to do.

“Dr. Ford’s call for the FBI to investigate also demonstrates her confidence that when all the facts are examined by an impartial investigation, her account will be further corroborated and confirmed. Senate Republicans and the White House should drop their inexplicable opposition to an FBI investigation, allow all the facts to come out, and then proceed with a fair process in the Senate. Dr. Ford’s life has already been badly disrupted by death threats and other intimidation. She deserves to be treated with respect and fairness by the Senate.”

Dr. Christine Blasey Ford sent a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee explaining that nothing of substance could occur before Monday, and a real investigation needed to happen first.

Normally an investigation would be done before a hearing in the first place, so Ford‘s request isn’t unusual, it’s logical. The problem is that Republicans don’t want a real investigation, and indeed they plan to use the “hearing” on Monday to intimidate and humiliate Ford by not calling any other witnesses, including Mark Judge who was in the room and laughed with Kavanaugh while Kavanaugh was on top of Dr Ford with his hand over her mouth to stifle her screams.

The burden of proof here is not as it would be in a criminal case. The burden is actually on Brett Kavanaugh to prove he is worthy of a lifetime appointment, it is not on Blasey Ford to prove Kavanaugh tried to rape her.

The FBI would be involved to do a background investigation to see if Kavanaugh is an upstanding citizen, if he misrepresents himself, if he has other challenges that make him a bad candidate to be on the highest court in the land.

Chuck Schumer is showing us what any decent senator should be doing. Instead, we have the Senate Republican frat boys who demanded that Blasey Ford sit at the very same table as her possible rapist.

This kind of evil is simply unfathomable in the U.S. Senate. Republicans will not be held to even a shred of decency or even law-abiding behavior. They want to put someone on the U.S. Supreme Court who they know is not fit for the job.

People should be asking why, while they are on their way to DC to protest.
