Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley, the Senate Judiciary Committee chairman running Brett Kavanaugh‘s confirmation process, says he and his staff have been working tirelessly to reach out to Kavanaugh‘s accuser, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford.
Democratic Sen. Mazie Hirono shot back on Wednesday, quite literally calling “bullshit” on Grassley‘s claims.
In an interview with ABC News, which spoke to a handful of Senators on Wednesday, Hirono said the Republican senator’s claims are “such bullshit I can’t hardly stand it.”
Republicans are trying to kill this controversy, not take Ford’s allegations seriously
Publicly, Republicans are doing their best to pretend that they care about the serious allegations put forward by Dr. Ford. They know that they are credible and damning.
But behind the scenes, they are hoping this controversy will blow over quickly. That’s why they are rushing to question Ford without calling any other key witnesses or doing any serious investigation into her claims.
Without a full inquiry into her stunning allegations, the senators who do care about examining Ford’s allegations will be shooting completely in the dark. And Republicans rushing the hearing will likely do their best to undermine her credibility. Many of them are already doing that.
Ultimately, it’s clear Republicans aren’t taking these allegations seriously. They are trying to make them go away as quickly as they can. Any suggestion otherwise, as Sen. Hirono said on Wednesday, is bullsh**.
