Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said that any effort by a Democratic House majority to investigate Trump would be presidential harassment and warned Democrats not to harass Trump by holding him accountable.

The AP reported:
The Kentucky Republican told The Associated Press in an interview Wednesday that Democratic threats to investigate President Donald Trump’s finances and businesses would “help the president get re-elected” in 2020.

He recalled how Republicans were enthusiastic about going after President Bill Clinton in the 1990s. The GOP-led House impeached Clinton, but the Senate acquitted him. The public was not as supportive as Republicans had hoped.

McConnell says ’It worked exactly the opposite. The public got mad at us and felt sympathy for President Clinton.”

McConnell added that “this business of presidential harassment may or may not quite be the winner they think it is.”

McConnell thinks that Congress doing its job is harassment

Mitch McConnell’s warped view that Congress shouldn’t investigate Trump because it would be equal to presidential harassment explains why Republicans have refused to fulfill their constitutional duties of oversight while in control of the House and Senate. Republicans believe that doing oversight into the Trump administration equals harassment.

The Senate Majority Leader could not be more wrong with Trump/Clinton comparison.

Voters supported Bill Clinton because he was railroaded by a Republican majority who used his private consensual adult conduct against him. Trump has already been named an unindicted co-conspirator in numerous felonies. The New York Times report that Trump inherited his fortune through tax fraud is by itself worthy of investigation.

It isn’t harassment to investigate a president who has been connected to felony criminal activity. The duty of Congress is to conduct oversight. McConnell is worried that a Democratic House will doom Trump.

Democrats won’t investigate Trump to harass him. House Democrats will be investigating Trump to protect America.
