Rachel Maddow Shreds Shameless Trump For Putting Himself Before Synagogue Shooting Victims

Rachel Maddow tore into Donald Trump on Monday for deliberately putting himself before the victims of Saturday’s shooting at a synagogue in Pittsburgh.

The MSNBC host slammed the president and the First Lady for planning to visit Pittsburgh on Tuesday even as city leaders urge them not to.

“The city is literally saying as a matter of public safety, which you would think would be paramount at this time, they cannot devote enough resources to both protect the funerals of the massacre victims,” Maddow said.

Maddow said:

As of right now, though, apparently, the president is still planning on going. So imagine you work at the White House. You’re used to a lot from this president, but right now in this moment, what are you telling yourself about what you’re helping plan and working on at the White House, right? The White House justification for this is what? ‘Aww, that’s cute, your massacre victims need burying? No. President Trump wants to do what he wants to do. That’s more important.’ I mean, the city is literally saying as a matter of public safety, which you would think would be paramount at this time, they cannot devote enough resources to both protect the funerals of the massacre victims and also bring the president into the city where he would like to show up despite all the requests from that city to the contrary. So like I said, we’re watching this sort of small element of this story tonight because it just seems like one of — this just seems like a thing that cannot stand, right? The president continuing to hold his political rally and tweeting about baseball within hours of the worst attack in the history of the United States on Jewish Americans. Maybe that was stuff he just decided to do on his own. But the president now deliberately interfering with the funerals of the murder victims? Presumably, that has to be a whole White House effort, right? He can’t plan that himself. And so presumably somebody in the White House will be too nauseas to go through with that, right? Right? We await word.

Trump is looking for pre-election photo-op

As Donald Trump’s approval rating sinks and his caravan fear-mongering fails to improve GOP prospects with a week to go before Election Day, the president is desperate for a favorable photo-op.

But in his crusade to score pre-election political points, he is trampling on the funerals of the 11 victims – and he doesn’t appear to give a damn.

Real leaders know when to rise above the fray and do what’s right, regardless of the politics. Trump, on the other hand, knows only how to put himself at the center of the universe, even as grieving families in Pittsburgh are asking for time to mourn their losses.
