Andrew Gillum Unconcedes As Florida Governor Race Heads For Recount

Last updated on July 21st, 2023 at 05:34 pm

Florida Democratic gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum has walked back his concession of defeat as more ballots are left to be counted.

The Gillum campaign said in a statement, “On Tuesday night, the Gillum for Governor campaign operated with the best information available about the number of outstanding ballots left to count,†the statement read. “Since that time, it has become clear there are many more uncounted ballots than was originally reported. Our campaign, along with our attorney Barry Richard, is monitoring the situation closely and is ready for an outcome, including a state-mandated recount.â€

DeSantis’s lead has fallen under the half of a percent threshold for a recount in Florida. With more ballots left to be counted, the Gillum campaign would have to be crazy not to fight for every single vote to be counted.
