CNN requested emergency action in court on Monday after Trump and Sarah Sanders said that they would take Jim Acosta’s press pass away as soon as the restraining order expires.

CNN reported:

The White House has issued a new warning to CNN’s Jim Acosta, saying his press pass could be revoked again at the end of the month.

In response, CNN is asking the U.S. District Court for another emergency hearing.

“The White House is continuing to violate the First and 5th Amendments of the Constitution,” the network said in a statement Sunday. “These actions threaten all journalists and news organizations. Jim Acosta and CNN will continue to report the news about the White House and the President.”

The White House sent a formal letter signed by Sarah Sanders and Bill Shine to CNN notifying the network that they plan to take away Acosta’s press pass as soon as the restraining order expires at the end of the month.

CNN Need Emergency Hearing To Stop White House First Amendment Threat

The goal for the White House is to make an example out of Acosta, so that other reporters and networks stop digging for facts and challenging this administration. Trump and Sarah Sanders are carrying out an attack on the First Amendment that is wrapped in a disguise of “decorum.”What the administration means by decorum is that Trump wants friendly non-questioning coverage from all media like they get from conservative outlets.

The Trump administration views attacking CNN and the press as good politics. They believe that it gives Republicans an enemy while also keep Trump supporters distrustful of facts. It is a classic poisoning of the well technique, but the broader threat to the country is this administration’s desire to control what and how the free press reports the news.

CNN isn’t just fighting for Jim Acosta’s press pass. They are defending the First Amendment.
