Mueller Fires Back: Trump adviser Flynn needed no warning against lying to FBI

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Donald Trump’s former national security adviser Michael Flynn did not need to be warned against lying to the FBI and does not deserve sentencing leniency because he received no warning, U.S. prosecutors said on Friday.

“He does not need to be warned it is a crime to lie to federal agents to know the importance of telling them the truth,” Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election, told a U.S. judge ahead of Flynn’s sentencing on Tuesday.

Flynn pleaded guilty in December 2017 to lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russia.
