According to Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Trump has threatened to shut the government down for years if he doesn’t get his wall.
Schumer said, “The bottom line is very simple. We made a plea to the president once again. Don’t hold millions of Americans, hundreds of thousands of workers hostage. Open up the government and let’s continue the discussions. I pointed out to him, for instance, a call of my office this morning. A fire dispatcher from upstate New York, his wife is pregnant. Signed a mortgage. Can’t get the FAA to approve it now. FHA to approve it because the government is closed. This kind of situation is happening in millions of instances across the United States in one way or another. So we told the president, we needed the government open. He resisted. In fact, he said he’d keep the government closed for a very long period of time. Months or even years.”

Trump left the meeting acting like he was going to get his wall:

It is like Trump wasn’t in the same meeting as the Democrats. The president thinks that he is winning when he keeps taking a bad hand and making it worse.
Pelosi and Schumer and now demanding that Trump reopen the government
Pelosi and Schumer have made reopening the government a precondition to any progress on other issues, so Trump‘s disadvantage has grown. Trump is getting owned by Pelosi and Schumer and doesn’t understand yet that each one of his little fits raises the price that he will have to pay in these negotiations.
The Democrats have Trump on the run as the pretend winning can’t hide the losses that are mounting.
