A new Gallup Poll shows that 16% of all Americans, including 20% of U.S. women, would like to leave the United States, primarily because of the policies of President Donald Trump.
As Trump and his racist supporters have captured headlines with their demands to build a border wall and keep out immigrants, the truth is that more people want to leave the country than come in to it.
Gallup’s numbers indicate that the number of people wanting to leave the United States is at a record high. The 16% of Americans overall who said in 2018 that they would like to permanently move to another country if they could is higher than the average levels during either the George W. Bush (11%) or Barack Obama administration (10%).
Gallup’s World Poll did not ask people about their political leanings, so we don’t know the exact breakdown between Democrats, Republicans and Independents. However, there is evidence that the recent increase in the number of Americans with a desire to move to another country has come primarily from groups that lean Democratic. It is these people who most disapprove of Trump‘s job performance. The groups who most want to leave the country are women, younger Americans, and individuals in lower income brackets.
After the first two years of the Trump presidency, a record-high one in five U.S. women now say they would like to move to another country permanently if they were able to do so. This is twice the average for women during the Obama (10%) or Bush years (11%) and almost double the level among men (13%) under Trump.
Before the Trump years, there was no difference between men’s and women’s desires to move. This is more strong evidence of how Donald Trump has widened the gender gap in American politics, and has alienated women, who comprise over half of American voters.
Donald Trump is the most unpopular president among women in American history. Women were the primary cause of the Blue Wave in last November’s midterm elections, and they will continue to vote for Democrats and shun the Republican Party of Donald Trump.
The truth is that most women are disgusted by just about everything Donald Trump says and does, and the Gallup Poll proves this. The good news is that most of the people who detest Trump will not actually move to other countries but will stay and fight to take back the country and kick Trump and his Republican enablers out of office.
