As Donald Trump and Republicans shed crocodile tears over remarks made by Rep. Rashida Tlaib, the president reportedly had to apologize for using excessive profanity during a meeting with Democratic leadership on Friday.
According to The Washington Post, in the same meeting that Trump threatened a years-long shutdown, he had to apologize Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi for cursing so much.
The Post noted, “The president often used profanity during the meeting, apologizing to Pelosi at one point for cursing so much, according to the official.”
The revelation comes a day after Trump said that Rep. Tlaib did a “great dishonor” to her family by promising to “impeach the motherf****r.”
There are several different layers when it comes to the ginned-up controversy surrounding Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s tough remarks about impeaching Donald Trump.
First, it’s important to remember that the Democratic lawmaker is one of the first Muslim women elected to Congress. Since Trump hit the political scene, one of his favorite political punching bags has been Muslim Americans.
Second, while Trump has repeatedly found it difficult to go after Vladimir Putin or violent white supremacists, he has always shown great enjoyment attacking women, particularly minority women.
In other words, this isn’t about the so-called dishonoring of Rep. Tlaib’s family or her country. After all, no one has done more to dishonor the United States than this president – whether it’s through his repeatedly abhorrent rhetoric or reckless policymaking.
As PoliticusUSA’s Jason Easley wrote on Friday, “The old days of Republicans clutching their pearls over bad language went out the window when they sold their souls to Donald Trump.”
Trump hasn’t suddenly started caring about elevating the public discourse. What he is doing is finding another minority woman to attack that will make him look like a victim while riling up his base.
