Trump’s immigration address was a failed mixture of lies and pathetic desperation to get a wall that will never happen.
Trump said, “I am speaking to you because there is a growing humanitarian and security crisis at our southern border. Every day customs and border patrol agents encounter thousands of illegal immigrants trying to enter our country. We’re out of space to haul them and we have no way to promptly return them back home to their country. America proudly welcomes millions of lawful immigrants who enrich our society and contribute to our nation, but all Americans are hurt by uncontrolled illegal migration. It strains public resources and drives down jobs and wages. Among those hardest hit are African Americans and Hispanic Americans. Our southern border is a pipeline for vast quantities of illegal drugs including meth, heroin, cocaine and fentanyl. Every week, 300 of our citizens are killed by heroin alone.”

Trump tried to sell his wall as a humanitarian crisis, but it didn’t work.
Trump claimed that Democrats want a steel barrier and that law enforcement wants the wall. Both claims are false:

Trump’s big Oval Office address was a giant failure
Trump had nothing new to say or offer in support of his wall. His attempt to falsely describe a crisis sounded like he was reading off a Wiki page. Trump’s got nothing. He promised that Mexico would pay for the wall, and now that has become Mexico will “indirectly” pay for the wall with trade deals, which is also totally false.
Trump had no urgency, no passion, and as offered a snoozer of a speech that we have all heard a million times before. If this is the best that the White House has got, they need to throw in the towel, because it’s over and they’re toast.
