Dems Shouldn’t Negotiate With Trump As Long As He’s Under Investigation For Being A Russian Asset

One Democratic pollster said on Saturday that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi should stop negotiating with Donald Trump as long he is under investigation for being a Russian asset.

In an interview with MSNBC’s AM Joy, Fernand Amandi said Pelosi and the Democrats have the upper hand and they shouldn’t give Trump an inch.

“I’m just not really keen on the idea of the Speaker of the House of Representatives … continuing to negotiate in good faith for the reopening of our government when it’s talking about a president who is currently being investigated by the FBI for possibly being a hostile foreign agent of a hostile foreign government,” Amandi said.

Call me old fashioned, but I’m just not really keen on the idea of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, who is third in line to the presidency by the way, continuing to negotiate in good faith for the reopening of our government when it’s talking about a president who is currently being investigated by the FBI for possibly being a hostile foreign agent of a hostile foreign government. That being said, it’s interesting that now the president is introducing DACA. I will give Speaker Pelosi what I think is some free advice. I think they should take the deal with one caveat. Add to the mix that in exchange for the $5 billion for the wall and the extension of DACA protections, that the president release his tax returns immediately. Something that he promised to do, by the way, during the campaign. We’re now two years into the administration. I think it’s time for leader Pelosi to continue to play hardball. She clearly has the upper hand. She clearly has the negotiating advantage.

The Democrats shouldn’t give Trump an inch

The days of unchecked power are over for Donald Trump. Led by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Democrats now have a growing amount of leverage over the president.

First, public opinion is on their side. A majority of the country blames Trump for the shutdown. Not to mention, Trump is on video saying he would be “proud” to shut down the government over his proposed border wall, which a majority of the country opposes.

Second, hundreds of thousands of Americans aren’t receiving paychecks, putting many of them in a situation where they can’t afford food or medication. The longer that goes on, the more it will hurt Trump. Over the past several weeks, his approval rating has been in a steady decline.

But most importantly, as Fernand Amandi mentioned on Saturday, all of this falls against the backdrop of the reality that Trump is being investigated as a potential Russian agent. In other words, we really don’t know who Donald Trump is working for.

Unless and until that investigation concludes and we determine which side this president is on, Democrats shouldn’t give an inch.
