Chris Christie Thinks New York Prosecutors Could Sink Trump Before Mueller Does

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said on Monday that Donald Trump has a lot more to worry about than special counsel Robert Mueller’s ongoing investigation.

According to Christie, prosecutors in the Southern District of New York could be much more dangerous to Trump’s presidency due to the fact that their scope isn’t limited like Mueller’s.

“The Southern District of New York has no restrictions on their purview,” the former governor said. “Bob Mueller has a task. It’s Russian interference and potential collusion in the 2016 election. Southern District of New York is whatever the heck you want.”

Christie said:

I always thought that that was the bigger problem for two reasons. One because the Southern District of New York has no restrictions on their purview. Bob Mueller has a task. It’s Russian interference and potential collusion in the 2016 election. Southern District of New York is whatever the heck you want. … And you’ve got Michael Cohen, the president’s former lawyer, as a tour guide, that means you could go anywhere. And so I have always thought that was the much more problematic thing. And, listen, I know why there is a focus on Mueller and it is appropriate. But people should not take their eye off the ball.

The Southern District of New York is investigating more Trump corruption

More indications of just how much trouble New York prosecutors pose to Trump came on Monday as the president’s inauguration committee was subpoenaed for potential corruption as it relates to fundraising, donors and foreign entanglements.

And that’s only the tip of the iceberg. As Chris Christie noted on Monday, former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen has the keys to the president’s closet of skeletons and he’s likely handed it all over to state prosecutors.

Ultimately, there are serious indications that Robert Mueller’s ongoing investigation poses a major legal threat to Donald Trump, his family members and associates.

But it should worry Trump that Chris Christie, one of his allies and supporters, believes that he could be in even more legal trouble from prosecutors in New York.
