Matt Whitaker’s Hearing Is A Complete Disaster For Trump

Acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker finally showed up to testify before the House Judiciary Committee, and the hearing has been a disaster for Trump.

Whitaker began by saying that he wouldn’t answer any questions about what he has told Trump:

Things fell apart quickly as Whitaker tried to run out the clock when asked if he was ever asked to approve or disapprove an action by Mueller.

Here was the exchange:

Nadler
: Now, in your capacity as acting attorney general, have you ever been asked to approve any request or action to be taken by the special counsel?

Whitaker: Mr. Chairman, I see that your five minutes is up, and so I’m — I am here voluntarily. We have agreed to five minute rounds. And —

….

Nadler: The committee will come to order. I will point out we didn’t enforce the five-minute rule on acting attorney general Whitaker. We will —

The attorney general was in the middle of saying something. Answer the question, please. Should I ask the question again? In your — Let me repeat the question. In your capacity as acting attorney general have you ever been asked to approve any requests or action to be taken by the special counsel?

Whitaker: Mr. Chairman, as the acting attorney general, I am under the special counsel’s rules. I am the person that is ultimately in charge of the investigation. And I have exercised that authority under the special counsel’s regulations of the department of justice.

Nadler: So I assume the answer is yes? I assume the answer is yes, you have been asked to approve a request for action and you’ve said yes or no?

Whitaker: Mr. Chairman, I want to be very clear about what you’re asking me. Are you asking if I have asked the special counsel to do something?

Nadler: Well, I’m asking if — I think my words were clear enough. Have you ever been asked to approve any request or action to be taken by the special counsel? Last week you commented on the status of the investigation saying it was close to being completed. This was said despite the fact that you recognized moments before it was ongoing. I’m not going to talk about an open an ongoing investigation otherwise, close quote. I’m asking have you been asked to approve or disapprove a request or action to be taken by the special counsel?

Matt Whitaker is doing his best to avoid getting charged with a crime

Matt Whitaker isn’t defending Trump. He is trying to save his own skin. Chairman Nadler told Whitaker that he isn’t off the hook when his time as acting Attorney General ends. He is willing to depose Whitaker and call him back before the committee, even if he is a private citizen. This hearing is going terribly for Trump. it is confirming that Whitaker was put in place to spy on the Mueller investigation for Trump.

If Whitaker didn’t do anything wrong, he would not be avoiding questions about his actions and conversations with the president, White House, and Trump allies.

Matt Whitaker is looking guilty as sin, and he is making Trump‘s bad situation even worse with each question that he tries to dodge.
