Brennan: McCabe Was Right to Think Trump Might Be a Russian Spy

The former director of the Central Intelligence Agency on Wednesday praised former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe for his recent public comments about Donald Trump, saying he had “sufficient basis†to think that the president might be a Russian spy.

In numerous media interviews McCabe has explained in detail why he had decided to launch FBI investigations into the president nearly two years ago.

John Brennan, who served as Barack Obama’s CIA director, was on MSNBC’s “The 11th Hour†with Brian Williams to discuss the latest in the Trump investigations.

Before interviewing Brennan, Williams played video clips from two interviews that McCabe did on Wednesday on other MSNBC shows.

Then Williams said:

“Director Brennan, Mr. McCabe is out there talking about our president as a possible Russian asset. Some people watching no doubt hear this and chalk it up to crazy talk and perhaps they have heard the attacks on Mr. McCabe from the conservative media, from the president. I wanted to get your take on the possibility that our president is a Russian asset.â€

The former CIA director then responded:

“Well, I worked closely with Andy McCabe for several years and he always impressed me as a very serious, hard-working and competent senior official of the FBI. And I do think he handled the investigation very adeptly and carefully.â€

“And if he decided at that point of the ongoing investigation, that he needed to include Donald Trump as a potential target for the counterintelligence investigation, I do believe there was a sufficient basis, — again, based on my knowledge of Andy McCabe he wouldn’t do something like that without a sufficient predicate.“

“You know, I don’t know what has happened in that investigation since I left government in January of 2017. But I know that there was a lot of information that was available when I was there about Russian engagement in the interference in the 2016 election and also a lot of questions about Mr. Trump’s actions, his statements, and his behavior — and those around him.â€

Then Brennan added:

“So I do hope that Bob Mueller is going to bring this to conclusion and let us know exactly what the evidence has been able to uncover about Russian engagement as well as the role of U.S. persons in this intrigue.â€

Robert Mueller Must Tell the American People if Trump Has Been Working as a Russian Asset in the White House

Before special counsel Robert Mueller concludes his work and turns all of his files and evidence over to Trump’s Attorney General William Barr, he must let the American people know if their president has been working for Russia during his tenure in the White House.

It is not acceptable to think that all of the work of Mueller’s team could be buried by the Trump administration Justice Department. If the special counsel’s work is nearly done, then it is imperative that he very soon issue more indictments which go into detail about the president’s possible crimes and collusion with Russia.

If Donald Trump is a Russian spy, then the American people have a right to know about it immediately.
