MSNBC Guest: Feds ‘Will Be Waiting With Cuffs’ As Trump Leaves Office

Appearing on the MSNBC show AM Joy, legal analyst and Above the Law editor Elie Mystal said that Donald Trump is desperate to win re-election in 2020 because if he doesn’t, he will likely be arrested immediately by prosecutors representing the Southern District of New York (SDNY).

Speaking with host Joy Reid, Mystal gave a highly passionate and colorful description of what the future probably holds for our criminal and illegitimate president, who currently finds himself under siege from every direction.

“I hope it is not lost on people is that the Trump Organization, which appears to be a massive criminal front, is so small potatoes that if Trump hadn’t run for president, SDNY wouldn’t care,” Mystal opined, then he added:

“SDNY cares about stopping terrorism.”

“Putting SDNY on the Trump investigation is like bringing in Sherlock Holmes to figure out who framed Roger Rabbit.”

“Now that SDNY is on it, they’re all going down.”

Then Mystal repeated the warning issued by Michael Cohen himself during Wednesday’s televised hearing in the House Oversight Committee, saying:

“The key thing from Michael Cohen’s testimony, besides all the information he laid out, he issued basically a warning to the rest of the people in the Trump Organization from the CFO Allen Weisselberg all the way down to the secretary: you lie for Trump, you’re going to get got.”

Mystal also pointed out that as a matter of law, the criminal charges likely to be filed against Trump, such as bank fraud, have a statute of limitations of ten years. This means that, since Trump’s crimes that are being investigated date back to 2014, there is no particular rush for the federal authorities to either indict or arrest the present. They can simply wait until Trump leaves office, which he must do eventually.

Mystal then gleefully exclaimed that if Trump loses in the 2020 election, he can expect to be cuffed by SDNY officials as soon as he departs the White House.

“The SDNY is going to be waiting with cuffs on his way out the door,” Mystal concluded.
