CNN‘s Jim Acosta called out Sarah Sanders for saying things that weren’t true about Democrats during the White House press briefing.
Sanders said that Democrats hate Jewish people, “I think the real shame in all of this that Democrats are perfectly capable of coming they have a hard time condemning the type of comments from Congresswoman Omar. I think it is a great shame, the president has been clear on what his position is and certainly that his support is for the people or the community of Israel. Beyond that, I don’t have anything further for you.”
Acosta called her out, “You are saying something that’s just patently untrue.”

Trump called for the press briefing, not to have Sanders talk about his budget, but to try to hammer home the lie that Democrats hate Jews. The White House is desperately trying to keep the Rep. Omar story alive, but they ran into a consistent problem each time they tried to paint Democrats as the party of bigots.
Sanders would say Democrats hate Jews, and the reporters would respond by asking about Trump and Steve King, or Trump‘s rhetoric about immigrants, or Trump and Charlottesville.
Sarah Sanders was lying about the position of Democrats. The Democratic Party doesn’t hate Jews. Trump is trying to divide the country along a different fault line ahead of the 2020 election.
Reporters aren’t going to be the pawns of the White House. They aren’t going to sit there and repeat Trump‘s bigoted lies and propaganda.
Jim Acosta was right to call out Sarah Sanders for lying. His job is to report the facts, and no press briefing is worth betraying journalistic responsibility to help an administration spread lies.
