Saturday Night Live skit on Trump
Donald Trump on Sunday attacked a Saturday Night Live (SNL) rerun for making jokes at his expense. The popular NBC show opened with a skit called “It’s a Wonderful Trump” which showed what life would be like if he had never been elected president.
In a pair of tweets, Trump complained that SNL and other late-night comedy shows “can spend all of their time knocking the same person (me), over & over, without so much of a mention of ‘the other side.’ Like an advertisement without consequences.”
Trump also implied that the Federal Election Commission or the Federal Communications Commission should look into the matter, saying there “must be Collusion with the Democrats and, of course, Russia!
Trump tweeted this morning:
It’s truly incredible that shows like Saturday Night Live, not funny/no talent, can spend all of their time knocking the same person (me), over & over, without so much of a mention of “the other side.” Like an advertisement without consequences. Same with Late Night Shows……
….Should Federal Election Commission and/or FCC look into this? There must be Collusion with the Democrats and, of course, Russia! Such one sided media coverage, most of it Fake News. Hard to believe I won and am winning. Approval Rating 52%, 93% with Republicans. Sorry! #MAGA
It’s not clear what poll Trump was referring to since most opinion polls show his approval at around 40%. His approval rating with the conservative Rasmussen Poll did hit 52 percent on February 11, but has since plummeted to 48 percent.
Trump is known for being very sensitive to his portrayal in the media, and has often targeted “Saturday Night Live” the morning after the show aired sketches making fun of him.
Since SNL is on a two-week hiatus last night it aired a rerun from last December that opened with a parody of the perennial Christmas movie “It’s a Wonderful Life.”
The skit tried to show how much better the world would be if Trump had never become president.
The president also criticized SNL at the time the original show was aired, and said at the time that the show was an example of “collusion” and “should be tested in courts.” He has since regularly tweeted about the comedy show in early morning Twitter rants.
The thin-skinned Trump last week also complained about late night comedy shows after the subject was discussed on “Fox & Friends.”
