Rep. Barbara Lee: There Is No Way Special Olympics Funding Will Be Cut

Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA), who serves on the House Appropriations Committee, said that there is no way that Congress will cut Special Olympics funding.

Rep. Lee said, “Let me tell you this isn’t the first year they proposed to eliminate funding. This is the third time we’ve seen this unbelievably appalling proposal and we did not go along with it and Congress rejected it. So I don’t know when the secretary and trump administration will understand we’re not going to allow them to take away federal support for children with special needs. This support gives them a real chance to shine, Chris, and it’s no way that we’re going to let them it do that.”

Lee pointed out that this is the third straight year that Trump has tried to do this, and she believes that the White House motivation is an effort to privatize public education and withdraw all federal funding from the public sector. The presidential budget is frequently described as a moral document and a statement of priorities. If this is true, it means that the Trump administration has no morals and their sole priority is the upward redistribution of wealth.

Cutting funding for Special Olympians is who Donald Trump is. It is what his administration embodies. Trump has managed to turn a pseudo-Mueller victory lap into the destruction of the healthcare system and a call to defund the Special Olympics.

For someone who claims to love winning so much, all Donald Trump ever does is lose.
