Schumer Blasts Mitch McConnell For Ignoring Mueller And Blocking Election Security Bill

Senate Democratic Leader Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) blasted Mitch McConnell for ignoring Robert Mueller and blocking an election security bill in the Senate.

Schumer blasts McConnell for ignoring Mueller

Schumer said in a statement provided to PoliticusUSA:

Mr. Mueller made clear today that the Russians interfered in our elections, the wellspring of our democracy. If President Trump and Congress don’t do anything, it will be worse in 2020, and yet, inexplicably, Senator McConnell and the Republicans in the Senate are blocking bipartisan election security legislation, despite Democrats’ repeated calls to protect our democracy from interference—by Russia or any other foreign adversary.

Mr. Mueller’s statement also makes clear that Congress has a right—we believe an obligation—to continue our constitutionally mandated oversight without interference or stonewalling and follow the facts wherever they may lead.

Mitch McConnell has refused to bring any bill that would secure US elections to the Senate floor for a vote.

During his press conference, Robert Mueller said, “I will close by reiterating the central allegation of our indictments — that there were multiple, systematic efforts to interference in our election. That allegation deserves the attention of every American.”

Mitch McConnell is helping the Russians interfere in the 2020 election. McConnell knows that Republicans and Trump can’t win without outside assistance, so he is doing everything in his power to ignore Robert Mueller and undermine democracy.
